Reader's Workshop
During this time of the day we utilize all of the strategies we learned as a group during Read Alouds and Shared Reading. During this time, the children will be reading books independently following a brief mini-lesson focusing on skills from the current Unit of Study. Independent reading time is structured as a workshop to allow children to work within a predictable routine while they begin to read books on their level independently. The children will be encouraged to reread their books and focus on emergent reading strategies. An outcome of the workshop is the opportunity to practice the books at home. During the course of the year, your child will be bringing home his/her book baggies to practice the materials used in class.
