Helpful Hints to Improve Expressive Language Skills

     1.  While looking at books or magazines name many of the objects.  Discuss similarities and differences across items.  Identify their categories                and attributes.  "I Spy" books are a wonderful resource.

     2.  Label objects and occupations in the community.  Discuss their function and purpose.

     3.  While playing games such as object bingo or Guess Who give clues about the objects.  Describe them without saying the name of what it is.

     4.  While reading a book, ask your child what the characters are doing.  Make sure they respond using the appropriate pronouns (he/she/they                 and verb for (is/are). 

     5.  Ask your child about an event they recently experienced.  Have them retell the information in a sequential manner as to what happened first,            second, third, etc.
