Did You Know… 238-Acre Facilities Update

Throughout the year the District is constantly repairing, replacing, and upgrading equipment and facilities.  It is especially busy for our custodians and maintenance staff during the summer months when schools are closed. Indoor renovations, repairs, and maintenance inside the schools are the priority so that the facilities are ready for use when the school year begins. This summer, our staff is working on flooring, including refinishing the gym floors at Wood Park and North Ridge, bathroom/classroom renovations, air conditioning replacement, concrete and asphalt projects, and deep cleaning of the buildings.  We have finally received approval from the State to remove the cement piers from the front of the high school, and we are working towards having the site cleared before school opens on September 6.

We very much appreciate the dedication of our custodians and maintenance staff, and their hard work during the warm summer months, and a special thank you to our PTAs, private organizations, and donors for their assistance in maintaining and upgrading the playgrounds at the following schools:

At Burr, District resources and donated funds are allowing us to replace playground equipment (Summer/Fall 2017)

At North Ridge, a new swing set was added with our thanks to the PTA for fundraising and donating monies (Completed June 2017)

At Rolling Hills, two new pieces of playground equipment are being installed thanks to the PTA, the Shana Kay Memorial Foundation, and district resources (Summer/Fall 2017)

At Wood Park, new playground equipment is being installed thanks to the Shana Kay Memorial Foundation (Fall 2017)

At Indian Hollow new playground equipment and is being installed thanks to PTA and district resources (Fall 2017)

Our school property encompasses 238 acres of grass, cement, and asphalt, and 16 buildings. While the school grounds are maintained for our students’ use, community members are free to use the facilities when school is not in session. The District grants access to outdoor facilities such as fields and tennis courts through the issuance of permits from the Facilities Department.  Should a facility be deemed unsafe, the district would secure the area to prevent injury and to keep the area free from unauthorized use. The community is encouraged to report any unsafe conditions to the Facilities Department (631) 858-3600 or Security (631) 858-3611.
