Welcome to AP statistics.  I look forward to a wonderful and exciting year.  Our objectives for this course will include the successful completion of our academic curriculum coupled with an appreciation of the subject matter.  I strongly encourage you to be an active participant in the course work this year as it is the best way to get a true appreciation for the material.

 

Statistical analysis can be seen in many applications ranging from the daily newspaper to advanced scientific research.  It is the purpose of this Advanced Placement course in statistics to provide an introduction to the major concepts and tools for collecting data, analyzing data, and drawing conclusions from data.

 

Materials Needed:  

=      Loose leaf binder will probably work best.

=      Tools:  Pen, pencil, ruler, graph paper

=      Textbook: Stats Modeling the World: 5th Edition

=      Technology:  TI84/TI84Plus and Chromebook

 

Homework/Classwork:  Independent work is an integral part of our course work and will count towards your grade.  At this level of study, thoughtful completion of assignments is expected. 

 

Grading:  Major tests will be rated out of a possible 80 or more points.  Quizzes/projects will range from 10 to 50 points.  Your test grades grades will be determined by the total number of points earned divided by the total possible points.  

 

Your marking period grade will consist of 

Assessments 80%

Engagement/Homework 20%

 

Absences:  In the event of a legal absence, missed class work, homework, notes, tests, quizzes, etc. will need to be made up in a timely fashion – usually within 1 week of the absence unless there are extenuating circumstances.  

 

Extra Help:  Details for extra help are still being ironed out but please do not hesitate to ask for help at any time.  

 

Class Helper:  To assist each other, I would ask that each member of the class choose another student to collect any materials handed out in the event of an absence.
