Math Curriculum Objectives

Knowledge and Understanding
Students will be able to

  • Know and demonstrate understanding of the concepts from the following domains:  Ratios and Proportional Relationships, Number System, Expression, Equations, and Inequalities, Geometry, and Statistics and Probability.

  • Use appropriate math concepts and skills to solve problems in mathematics and transfer the content knowledge to include real-life situations.

  • Select and apply general rules correctly to solve problems, including those in real-life contexts.


Mathematical Practices

Students will be able to apply the Mathematical Practices in their classes and transfer the skills to real-life situations.

  1. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.

  2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively

  3. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.

  4. Model with mathematics.

  5. Use appropriate tools strategically.

  6. Attend to precision.

  7. Look for and make use of structure.

  8. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.

 

Investigating Patterns
Students will be able to

  • Select and apply appropriate inquiry and mathematical problem-solving techniques.

  • Recognize patterns.

  • Describe patterns as relationships or general rules.

  • Draw conclusions consistent with findings.

  • Justify or prove mathematical relationships and general rules.


Communicate in Mathematics
Students will be able to

  • Use appropriate math language (notation, symbols & terminology) in both oral and written explanations.

  • Use different forms of mathematical representations (formulas, diagrams, tables, charts, graphs & models).

  • Move between different forms of representation. 

  • Explain whether their results make sense in the context of the problem.

  • Explain the importance of their findings.

  • Justify the degree of accuracy of their results where appropriate.

  • Suggest improvements to the method when necessary.
