Biographies (Grade 6)

Focus on the following databases as you conduct your research about your famous individual. Remember to find all of the facts/required information about your person. You will be focusing primarily on the individual's contributions to society, in addition to the adversity the individual might have faced and overcome in his/her lifetime. 
 
 
Step One: Enter in username: empirelink ; password: empirelink
 
Step Two: Select "Middle" as shown below. 
 
 
Step Three: On the top of your page, enter the person that you have chosen to research into the search bar as shown below. 
 
 
 
Step Four: You will be brought to a page with a lot of different resources and many choices, highlighted in the image below. 
 
 
  1. On the top of the page, you will have the option of changing the reading/complexity level of the resources.
  2. In the middle of the page, you can select the most relevant article to your person.
  3.  On the left hand of the page, you will find helpful tools like image, videos, and primary sources. 
 
Step Five: Contrary to most of our databases, citation help will be found at the top of the article. Click the checkmark at the top of the page and copy and paste the MLA citation into your Works Cited page.
 
 
 
 
Step One: On the top of your page, enter the person that you have chosen to research into the search bar as shown below. 
 
 
 
Step Two: Continue your research by reading the entire article, as circled below, reading "More Quick Facts" and visiting the biography link on the right side of your page.
 
 
 
Step Three: Some helpful features of Gale: Biography in Context is "Listen" (center), which will read the article aloud to you and "Highlights and Notes" (right) which allows you to annotate the article. 
 
 
 
Step Four: Similar to Britannica School, you can find Citation Tools on the top right of the page. Again, copy and paste the citation information into your document for your Works Cited page.

Human Ingenuity: "Is technology more of a gift or a burden?" (Grade 7)

Focus on the following databases as you conduct your research about your chosen technology/innovation. Remember, information that you gather should help you answer the question, "Is technology more of a gift or a burden?" 
 
 
Step 1: Enter in username: commackms ; password: commackms 
 
Step 2:  Enter in your subject in the search bar, as shown below. 
 
 
 
Step 3: The article that you visit will be excellent for background or historical information about your topic. You can have the article read aloud to you by clicking the ear, as shown below. Read the article and gather important information into your note-taking packet.
 
 
 
Step 4:  After you have read the article and gathered appropriate information, scroll to the bottom of the article for the source citation. Click "How to cite this article" and you will be brought to the MLA & APA citations. You can simply copy and paste this citation into your Works Cited Page in a separate document. 
 
 
 
 
Step 1: Enter in password: empirelink .
 
Step 2: Enter in your subject in the search bar, as shown below.
 
 
 
Step 3: You will arrive at an artlcle/resource that will provide helpful information about your topic which you can read more about by clicking the "Read More" feature in the center of the page. On the right side of your page, you can also access "Featured Viewpoints" and "Statistics" which will be extremely helpful for this particular project. 
 
 
Step 4: After you have read the article and gathered appropriate information, scroll to the bottom of the article for the source citation. You can simply copy and paste this citation into your Works Cited Page in a separate document.
