Living Environment 1B

Living Environment 1B

This course will cover the Living Environment curriculum over a period of one year. At the end of the year, students will take the New York State Living Environment Regents exam.


=         To develop a greater understanding of the living environment through scientific inquiry.

=         To foster interactive educational activities and independent academic skills.


1.    Come to class on time and prepared to learn.

2.    Respect the rights of others, especially the right to learn, by being quiet and attentive in class.

3.    Ask questions (by raising hand).

4.    Give their best effort to this class.


=         Assignments will be written on the side board, it is the student’s responsibility to copy them into their school planner.

=         Absences: Have the assignment that was due the day you were absent ready to hand in the day you return to school.

-      Students missing class work and/or homework because of an absence need to check the “Absent Folder” (in classroom) upon returning to class.

-      Students will have as many days to make up the work as they were absent, i.e. absent 2 days = 2 days to hand in.


Topics covered:

The Scientific Method, Life’s Organization, Reproduction, Genetics, Evolution, Ecology

Human Impact on the Environment, Review for June Regents Exam


=         3- Ring binder should contain the following sections:    

o   Notes/handouts

o   Homework

o   Tests & Quizzes   

=         Pens, pencils and school planner.


Grades: Grades will be based on the following:

                   Tests                     40%

                   Quizzes                 30%

                   Labs                      20%

                   Homework              10%


Labs: The New York State Board of Regents mandates that every student will be engaged in laboratory activities. Students will not be permitted to take the Living Environment Regents without fulfilling lab requirements. Students must satisfactorily complete 1,200 lab minutes.

Extra Help: I will be available ___________________ afternoon at 2:30 – 3:30 pm.
