Science Benchmarks

Science Benchmarks

There are currently no benchmarks for students in the 6th grade level; but, by the end of 7th grade, a portfolio for each student will include many activities demonstrating competency, including:
  • the collection, organization and evaluation of data from a science lab activity.
  • the creation of a data table within a spreadsheet with correctly labeled and formatted rows and columns consisting of at least two embedded calculations.
  • the use of painting tools to create a representation of the atom of an element while correctly sketching the nucleus, electrons, and electron rings of that element, as well as labeling it by name and symbol, in a text box, with other relevant information regarding the atom.

By the end of 8th grade, a portfolio for each student will include many activities demonstrating competency similar to, yet more advance, than those for the 7th grade level. Additionally, students will be required:
  • to generate a graph that correctly displays data from a lab assignment and to label that data appropriately.
