Social Studies Benchmarks

By the end of 6th grade, a portfolio for each student will include evidence of many activities demonstrating competency. The activities may include

completing an Internet web quest,
typing URLs correctly,
using hyperlinks correctly to search for information,
using the menu bar of a browser to correctly navigate websites,
controlling the correct and appropriate printing of a hard copy, and
completing a questionnaire.

By the end of 7th grade, a portfolio for each student will include many activities demonstrating competency, including:

research using a database in their Social Studies class,
querying the Internet Public Library (www.ipl.org/ref/POTUS) to answer a questionnaire,
creating an information sheet about the first 16 Presidents, and
sorting different fields to generate study sheets.

By the end of 8th grade, a portfolio for each student will include many activities demonstrating competency, including:

The production of a research paper that will include:

an appropriately displayed title,
an annotated bibliography with several references from traditional sources or, instead, a minimum of five footnotes,
at least one Internet source, and
correct formatting.
