The Commack High School Chapter of the National Technology Honor Society is a local chapter of the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS), an internationally recognized and proven program with thousands of member schools and colleges. We are a service organization dedicated to helping the CHS community with the use and application of technology. Students in grades 10 - 12 are welcome to make application to this organization.
The mission of the Technology Honor Society is to promote and recognize students' technological literacy, including the creative and responsible use of technology, scholarship, commitment to service, and leadership. This is accomplished through encouraging the usage of technology by assisting the CHS community with technology-related activities/issues and engaging in technological competitions. The NTHS honors student achievement and leadership, promote educational excellence, and enhanced career opportunities.
The membership fee is $40.00 for each year in the Honor society. Checks are collected approximately three weeks prior to the Induction Ceremony; hence, they are not due with the application materials. Checks are payable to "Commack High School."
Upon acceptance into the Honor Society, NTHS members receive: the NTHS custom membership certificate, pin, card, window decal, white tassel, official NTHS diploma seal, the opportunity to earn an honor chord for graduation and Honor Society T-shirt- both at no additional fee. Additionally, students, after graduation, will have access to the Online Career Center.
The goals of NTHS are to provide student members an opportunity to:
- assist the CHS community with technology-related activities/issues,
- engage in technological competitions,
- plan and administer tech-related seminars, and
- deliver lectures on technological subjects.
The membership of NTHS are based on the following criteria:
A. basic technological literacy
B. overall, weighted GPA of 90 or better
C. having completed a minimum of one technology-related course offered by the technology education department, a course affiliated with Project Lead the Way (PLTW), or a computer science course, and obtained a raw grade of 85 or better in all such course(s).
D. be in either: 10th, 11th, or 12th grades.
E. willingness to provide creative and responsible technological service to both the school and the community.
F. membership for any person shall be subject to the approval of the officers and advisors.
G. In the first year of membership, the applicant must attend the initial meeting of the Honor Society to obtain information about membership. Approximatately three weeks before the induction ceremony, the applicant must earn five points by attending available meetings or activities of the Honor Society to show his/her intent on becoming a member. This period of time from the beginning of the school year until when the points are tallied is referred to as the “probationary period” of the applicant. Applicants not fulfilling this requirement may be considered for membership.
H. Seniors who are in their first year of membership need to earn five point to be eligible for an honor cord.
If interested you are interested in becoming a member, complete an application including the name of a teacher who will support your recommendation. The Honor Society will review all applications for completeness and effort. Incomplete and/or insufficient applicants will invalidate an applicants applicant to the Honor Society. All applicants will be provided a status on his/her application in the weeks following the due date of the applicant materials.
All completed application by 11:59 pm on October 14th for consideration to the NTHS.
