Math
Children learn to apply acquired mathematical ideas and strategies through a multi-step process. This includes use of concrete manipulatives, pictorial representations, and finally abstract algorithms and symbols. We strive to develop a deep conceptual understanding before the traditional algorithms are introduced. We also focus on word problems and alternate ways to solve them. Second grade topics will include, place value to 1,000, regrouping with addition and subtraction, and an introduction to time, money, multiplication, division, fractions, graphing, and shapes and patterns.
