With the school year coming to a close, the summer of 2019 just around the corner and many students seem to have little to no idea of what to do on Long Island this summer break.

Long Island is, as the name would suggest, an island. Thus there’s a multitude of beaches to relish such as Jones Beach, Long Beach, Short Beach, Crab Meadow Beach and Robert Moses Beach.

“I like to go to Robert Moses Beach and walk around with my dog. I also like to spend time with my family there. The view is beautiful at Robert Moses,” said sophomore Taylor F.

At Long Island beaches, one can participate in many water sporting activities. Currently, the most popular is stand-up paddleboarding. One may also choose to swim or play in the ocean or to simply lay out on the sand and bask in the warmth of the sun.

“I like to go to Crab Meadow during the summer. My family or friends and I will walk on the boardwalk for a while, then we’ll go jump in the oceans and mess around. It’s really nice there. Crab Meadow has a kayak launch which I wanted to try this summer,” said junior Joseph A.

Long Island has the famous amusement park, Adventureland. The park has a total of 30 rides in which two are roller coasters and three are water rides. Adventureland also has thrill rides, kiddie rides, family rides and a myriad of other attractions, such as an arcade. A new thrilling ride, called Lighthouse Drop Tower, will be unveiled this summer as well.

“I go to Adventureland because I love the rollercoasters and it’s close so I’m able to ride my bike there. The bike rides there are really peaceful, too,” said sophomore Jack F.

At Adventureland, each ride requires three to five tickets. Single tickets could be bought for $1.50 each or one can choose ‘Pay One Price’. Pay One Price, or POP, costs $33.99 per person and is a bracelet that allows a person on as many rides as they may wish.

There are many popular towns on Long Island such as Northport which many choose to either shop or simply stroll around the town. Northport is a popular destination for one to take their dogs, and many shops there are dog-friendly, along with there being a pet store in the town. Northport is also a popular travel destination on Long Island due to its proximity to the Northport Bay.

“I go to Northport often to hang out with friends or go see a show at the Engeman Theater. There’s a lot of great restaurants in Northport, as well as incredible ice cream and candy shops. It’s nice in the summer to go there and feel the cooling breeze from the bay,” said Joseph.

Whether it is relaxing at one of the many Long Island beaches, enjoying a stroll in a village or experiencing thrills at a theme park, there’s plenty of exciting activities to experience on Long Island this summer.n
