Board of Education Statement
Dear Commack Community,

The Board of Education has formally accepted the resignation of our superintendent of schools, Dr. Donald James, effective today, September 20, 2021, with his last day on November 30, 2021.  The Board of Education would like to express its appreciation to Dr. James for his over ten years of service and dedication to the Commack School District, our students, and the Commack community.  We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.

The Board will be appointing an acting/interim superintendent of schools soon to ensure a smooth transition.

It is the intention of the Board of Education to conduct a formal search for our next superintendent of schools. Over the course of the next several months, the Board will select a search firm that has experience with and an understanding of Long Island, can help the district attract a broad and diverse pool of candidates to choose from, and can help guide the Board in selecting an educational leader who will best serve our students and build upon the exceptional educational program the Commack School District is known for. This search process will include opportunities for input from stakeholders in our community.

Further details will be shared with the community as this plan becomes more formalized.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email us at [email protected].

Thank you,

Commack Board of Education
