New Assistant Principals at Burr, Sawmill & Middle School
Congratulations to our newly appointed Assistant Principals (AP), announced at the May 19 special Board of Education meeting. Evelyn Cardenas, currently serving as one of the Middle School assistant principals, is excited to move back to Sawmill Intermediate School, now that the AP position is reinstated in the 2022-2023 school budget.

Amy Nicole Martin, who presently serves as one of our District Curriculum Associates and was formerly a Commack Middle School teacher for 18 years, will become the new AP at Commack Middle School on July 1, 2022.

At Burr, Jeanne Marie Powers, new to the District, was named to the AP position, also beginning on July 1, 2022. Ms. Powers is coming to us from PS 22 in Queens, where she works as a staff and curriculum resource developer. She has taught grades two, three, and six and has developed several new “Passport Curriculums” for the New York City Department of Education.

“We are grateful that these talented and devoted educators have accepted these important positions in the District,” said David Flatley, Interim Superintendent. “Their roles are vital to support our students both academically and emotionally as we get back to normalcy in our day-to-day teaching and learning during these unprecedented times in our schools. Each of these ladies has extensive experience and knowledge that will greatly benefit the children in their care.”
