Senator Visits Commack High School and Legislative Advocacy Committee
Legislative Advocacy CommitteeCommack’s Legislative Advocacy Committee has worked very hard to bring attention to the important issues that our school district faces. Items  that concern our students and community such as security in our schools, testing, the legalization of marijuana (not in favor), unfunded mandates, and state aid.  The Committee invited Senator Jim Gaughran to Commack High School today to discuss these topics and to give the Senator an insider’s view of the school.

After a question and answer session with the Committee, the Senator took a walking tour of the High School, led by our Student Ambassadors and got to see how students in a Computer Integrated Manufacturing Project Lead the Way class design, code and program for automation. The Senator also visited the TV Studio and saw how the CTN morning program is produced as well as an awesome video by one of our students. IB Dance students performed an original dance for their guests.

“We are extremely proud to highlight our exceptional students and the extensive programs we are so fortunate to have in Commack,” said Superintendent Dr. Donald James. “By inviting our legislators into our schools and classrooms, they are better able to help us advocate for our needs. I commend the work of our committee and its leaders, BOE President Steve Hartman and Ms. Goldberg."
