Students Throughout District Embrace Autism Awareness Month

Autism Acceptance Month activities are occurring throughout the district on Friday.
At Sawmill, classes are parading around the outside of the intermediate school. They then stop periodically at signs and have classmates read aloud the messages. One sign discussed the difference between awareness and acceptance, noting that the latter involves understanding, valuing and embracing.
Primary students at Indian Hollow, North Ridge, Rolling Hills and Wood Park recognized Autism Acceptance by wearing blue. As part of the recognition, an inclusive library is being made available to all classroom teachers.
Meanwhile, at CHS, a moving video was played for students from their classmates talking about the value of acceptance.
