Commack 10th Graders Shadow North Ridge Primary Classrooms

Select CHS 10th graders spent Tuesday gaining real-world experience during a ‘shadow day’ at North Ridge. The rising juniors observed and participated in both general and special area primary classrooms.
Elyse M., who shadowed an art class with Kelsey Franciosa, described the experience positively. “The kids were so much fun to work with,” she said. “After our project, one of the students gave me their drawing as a gift.”
For some students, the day helped solidify their interests. “I definitely want to do something related to art, so when I saw that ‘art teacher’ was an option, I jumped at that,” said Sophia B. “I’m really passionate about art and like to work with kids.”
The shadow day provided hands-on exposure for the high school students. CHS’ Schools of Study program will launch this fall, allowing students to enroll in their chosen program to further explore potential career paths prior to leaving Commack.
