CHS' ENL Students Mingle, Create Quilt and Attend Pep Rally

CHS’ English as a New Language students gathered on Friday to build camaraderie and to experience the high school’s afternoon pep rally as a group.
During one activity, the students created a “cultural quilt” — with each student creating one piece that included elements of their cultural heritage, challenges they have faced in coming to the United States as well as things they hoped to achieve in their new homeland.
Ultimately, the individual pieces formed one blanket.
Earlier in the day, teams participated in a scavenger hunt to gain more familiarity with CHS.
The event was sponsored by the World Languages department.
Pep rallies are unique to the United States, so the group learned about the tradition before experiencing it together.
CHS students come from all over the world, including Algeria, Bolivia, China, Haiti, Turkey, Uzbekistan and throughout Latin America.
