CMS' Erica Walerstein Earns Commack Star Award

Erica Walerstein has been a consistent and reliable presence at CMS for the past 11 years as the lead teacher of special education, going above and beyond to ensure the department runs smoothly.
And at a middle-school staff gathering after school on Monday, superintendent Dr. Jordan Cox recognized that dedication to excellence with a Commack Star Award.
“Her dedication, leadership and unwavering support have a tremendous impact on everyone she works with,” Dr. Cox said. “Erica is deeply valued by the department and admired throughout the building for the care, professionalism and expertise she brings to her role each day.
“Erica is also a huge advocate for doing what is best for the students, even in the most challenging situations. She handles herself with professionalism and is a constant source of support for students and their families.”
Walerstein is a trained mentor for the district and a SEPTA liaison. She also takes time out of her day to create department sunshine and celebrate departmental victories.
One of Walerstein’s colleagues stated: “There are so many things she does behind the scenes, because it makes our department better, and in turn makes us better.  We are lucky to have her.”
