Title Town! Soccer Teams Become First in County History to Both Capture State Crowns in Same Year

Commack is the center of the state’s Class AAA soccer universe.
The CHS varsity boys and girls teams both won state championships on Sunday, becoming the first Suffolk County high school in history to have both soccer programs win state titles in the same postseason.
It marked only the 13th time in state history that any school in the state, regardless of classification, won a boys and girls state title during the same year.
The CHS boys won the third state title in program history, while the girls won their first.
Playing in Middletown, the boys won their title first, defeating defending champion Fairview, 1-0, behind a first-half goal from Ryan C. and goalkeeper Zach B. leading the Cougars to their third straight shutout.
Hours later, playing in similarly frigid Cortland, the CHS girls defeated Cicero-North Syracuse, 2-0. Valentina C. converted a penalty kick to open the scoring and goalkeeper Rebecca G. produced the clean sheet.
Both teams defeated the defending champions en route to their titles — the girls in the county semifinals (Ward Melville) and the boys in the state finals (Fairport).
