Jeanette Collette Nominated for 2026 Harvard Club of Long Island Distinguished Teacher Award

It is often said that a great teacher can change the trajectory of a student's life. For Commack High School Science Research teacher Jeanette Collette, that impact was recently brought center stage. Collette was recognized as a nominee for the prestigious Harvard Club of Long Island Distinguished Teacher Award, following a heartfelt nomination from her former student and CHS alum, Mehek Sawhney.
The Harvard Club of Long Island annually honors educators who go above and beyond in shaping the minds of future leaders. Because the nominations come directly from current Harvard undergraduates reflecting on the middle and high school teachers who made the biggest difference in their lives, the distinction is particularly meaningful.
Collette is a cornerstone of Commack High School's rigorous science program. As a mentor in the Science Research program, she has spent years guiding students through complex, university-level research projects. Her dedication frequently leads her students to regional and national science fair successes, but this recent honor shifts the spotlight back onto her own hard work and the personal connections she builds in the classroom.
Congratulations to Jeanette Collette on this well-deserved recognition!
