Mad Science Workshop Brings Everyday Chemistry to CMS Students

Sixth grade students at Commack Middle School participated in a Kitchen Chemistry workshop Tuesday morning. Jasmine Jahangir from Mad Science of Long Island visited to guide the class through the workshop. The visit was designed to help students explore science in their everyday lives through interactive and practical experiences.
Students examined the differences between physical and chemical changes in various materials. They also conducted experiments by running protein and starch tests. These activities allowed the learners to observe how chemistry applies to the food they eat.
The CMS students then participated in a simulation of the human digestive system to demonstrate how chemical reactions process food within the body.
