Wood Park First Graders Explore Goods and Services With Kindness Cash

Students at Wood Park in Tonya Stahlmann’s class shopped in their classroom Friday morning as the culmination of their ELA and social studies integration unit. Students learned about fundamental economic concepts including goods and services as well as producers and consumers.
The young learners also practiced their writing skills by drafting instructions on how to complete various jobs and chores. Throughout the unit, the class earned Kindness Cash for their positive actions and participation. This special currency was then utilized to purchase items such as bookmarks, Pokémon cards, and homework passes, and services such as desk cleaning, water bottle filling, and happy hugs.
During the final activity students took on active roles by making goods and providing services for their peers. They then used their earned Kindness Cash to shop at the classroom store.
