CHS Hosts Military Breakfast Ahead of Memorial Day

Commack administration saluted a pair of Commack High School seniors on Friday morning who are demonstrating commitment to the nation.
In what is now an annual tradition, CHS hosted a Military Recognition Breakfast to show appreciation for Francesco D. and Kyle H. Francesco was accepted to the United States Military Academy at West Point, while Kyle will enroll in the Navy’s nuclear engineering program.
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you are about to embark upon,” CHS principal Carrie Lipenholtz said. “We are all so proud of you.”
Dr. Jordan Cox spoke of his great grandfather, grandfather and father who all served.
John Alvarez, a United States Marine Corps veteran of the war in Afghanistan, served as a keynote speaker.
Oscar Garza of the US Navy spoke and in a moment that brought the room to tears, presented Kyle with a $65,000 enlistment check.
Dakota Robinson, a US military academy representative, spoke on the rigorous process that Francesco went through to get to this point.
“Only 10% of applicants truly gain admission to the academy, so it is a tremendous accomplishment,” Robinson said.
