Commack High School students Sophie D. and Brayden O. received Gaetano Butch Dellecave Award nominees on Sunday afternoon. The Butch Dellecave Foundation presents this honor in conjunction with Newsday and the Economic Opportunity Council of Suffolk County. The ceremony names the top male and female high school athlete of the year in the county.

The award honors the legacy of Butch Dellecave who spent over 30 years as an educator and counselor. He was a prominent figure in local athletics and founded the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame. The distinction has grown to become the most prestigious amateur athletic award in Suffolk County.
