Matt Keltos Presented with Commack STAR Award

Commack High School students and staff listened closely over the public address system Monday morning as Superintendent Dr. Jordan Cox awarded Vice Principal Matt Keltos the Commack STAR Award to recognize his exceptional dedication to the district. The award honors staff members who exceed expectations for the school community on a daily basis.
A graduate of Commack North High School himself, Keltos began his career in the district in the 1990s. Dr. Cox reflected on the era Keltos was hired by mentioning popular television shows and ways of life. “While a lot of those 90s trends have faded away, one incredible thing from the 90s stayed right here, continued to grow deep roots, and changed the fabric of the Commack School District forever,” Dr. Cox said.
For over 30 years, Keltos has been the heartbeat of the halls at CHS. “He is the ultimate definition of a school leader because he understands the most important rule of education: relationships first,” Dr. Cox said. “By fostering deep and meaningful connections with everyone in the building, Matt has positively impacted countless lives.”
Beyond his professional dedication, Keltos is known for the joy he brings to the building each day. “We are going to miss his quick wit and his unmatched sense of humor that can turn even the most stressful school day into a laugh,” Dr. Cox said. “And we are certainly going to miss his practice golf swings in the hallway.”
Dr. Cox concluded the announcement by directly addressing the vice principal and his lasting legacy. “Matt, you have spent over three decades making sure every student who walked through our doors felt safe, valued, and loved,” Dr. Cox said. “There is no one more deserving of this distinguished honor.”
