Commack SEPTA

Welcome to Commack SEPTA. Most people ask, what is SEPTA?

SEPTA stands for Special Education Parent Teacher Association. We are a district wide PTA whose primary function is to act both as an advocacy and support group for children with special needs, their families, and teachers.

If your child receives speech, counseling, resource room, reading, occupational therapy, physical therapy or if your child is in a special education class, inclusion class or out of district placement, you need to be a member of SEPTA.

Even if you don't have children receiving services, please join to help us promote disabilities awareness district wide and our other advocacy efforts for our children.

Our Goals And Priorities Are:

Advocate for standardized policies and practices for all Commack schools according to grade level and placement type.

Advocate for appropriate programs that keep as many Commack students in the Commack school district as possible.

Advocate for the education of all instructional staff in the Commack school district on what the IEP mandates mean and what their responsibility is when a classified student is in their classrooms.

Advocate for training for all non-instructional staff in the Commack school district to promote best practices, inclusivity, and understanding when in contact with special needs students.

Advocate for the availability and use of assistive technologies and concrete learning experiences to promote academic growth in all subjects and all grade levels.

Advocate for fair and reasonable regents requirements and curricula to ensure that all students are given the opportunity to obtain a regents diploma.

Promote effective communication between parents, teachers, administrators, and students by seeking and then providing accurate information and resources regarding changes to NYS and federal laws as well as district practices.

Meeting times are listed on this e-board and in the district calendar. Please feel free to email us anytime with any questions or concerns.

Thank you for your support, and looking forward to seeing you at our next meeting!
