AVID

AVID

A.V.I.D. stands for Anti-Violence Initiative Day, a tradition that started here at North Ridge on January 2001 upon the recommendation of the Nassau and Suffolk Psychological Association's Anti-Violence Task Force in conjunction with SCOPE. Inc. It began as a way to make students, teachers, parents and the community aware of the warning signs of violence.

Here at North Ridge, we celebrate AVID through music, assemblies, literature and special art projects whose theme is one of non-violence and peaceful ways of solving problems. Ms. Lopez, our school library/media specialist, read the book, If Peace Is. The children then gathered in the hall to sing "Teaching Peace."

The North Ridge family is excited to continue our new tradition of "filling buckets!" "Bucket fillers" are those who help without being asked, give hugs and compliments, and generally spread their love and good feelings to others. Bucket filling promotes educating the "whole child" so he or she can be a compassionate, responsible, and helpful citizen.
