At the September 6, 2018 Board of Education meeting, Mr. Behar, Vice President of the Board, provided costs to date associated with the investigation of a former Board of Education member, Mrs. Pamela Verity, who resigned prior to a scheduled hearing on August 3, 2018.
After further review, the figures quoted at the meeting did not reflect the costs of legal issues leading up to the investigation. Those costs were incurred in April, prior to the investigation, to determine the proper legal procedures and factors necessary for proceeding and the provision of additional guidance for the Board related to a confidentiality matter. The April bill totaled $10,585.06.
Further, there is an additional cost of $1,798.97 reflected in the August legal bills as well as a bill for $525 in September that were not available at the time of the meeting. The total costs leading up to and including the investigation and the cancellation of the hearing total $72,968.24 (as known to us at this time). The District seeks to be fully transparent in this matter. The District will update this statement if additional cost should be incurred as a result of this unfortunate, but critical, matter.
